Gerald A. “Jerry” Tipton, age 84, of Murphy, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 in Blairsville, Georgia. He was a native of Topeka, Kansas, and lived in Orlando, Lakeland, and Brandon, Florida before moving to Murphy in 1993.  He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force.  Jerry retired in 1988 as manager of Transoceanic Freighting Services of IMCC in Tampa, Florida.  He was a member of the Murphy First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and a church quartet.  He was also a long-time member of the Tampa Bay Heralds of Harmony Barber Shop Chorus in Tampa.  Jerry loved playing tennis, practicing carpentry, and studying the Bible.

He was the son of the late William and Elva Rich Tipton.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Lyles Tipton; three sisters; and seven brothers.

Surviving are his wife, Joyce Bundy Tipton; two daughters, Deanna Campbell and husband, Bill of Milton, Georgia and Carol Foster and husband, Brad of Lenexa, Kansas; a step-daughter, Michele Armesto and husband, Alberto of Woodbridge, Virginia; a son, Allen Tipton of Cranford, New Jersey; a step-son, Martin Armbrester and wife, Maria of Maryville, Tennessee; a sister, Mildred Wray and husband, Charles of Topeka, Kansas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2018, followed by a reception, at Murphy First Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. Pallbearers were Walker Rowland, Larry Parrish, Larry Moyer, Danny Waters, Steve Hatfield, and Fred Heath. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fellowship 1 Sunday School class, Men’s Bible Study, and Men’s Ministry.

The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.

Hardy Ledford, 78, of Andrews passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at his residence. Hardy was a lifetime resident of Cherokee County. He worked as a foreman for many construction companies throughout his life. Hardy was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, and digging ramps. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife; grandson, John Robert Allen; and great grandson, Macon Allen.

He was the son of the late Willie Fortner and Ella Mae Postell. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joan Hughes.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Betty Jean Ledford; two daughters, Tammy Lea Adams and husband, Roger, and Annette Allen and husband, Kevin, all of Andrews; a son, Neal Ledford and wife, Cathy of Asheville; two grandsons, John Robert Allen and Neal Ledford Jr.; a great grandson, John Macon Allen; four sisters, Judy Cook and Lelia Ryan, both of Mineral Bluff, Georgia, and Jane Davenport and Linda Campbell, both of Blue Ridge, Georgia; a brother, Wayne Postell of Crossville, Tennessee; several other grandchildren and great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with the Rev. Mickey Stewart officiating. The interment was in Red Marble Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Marty, Darrell, and Garrel Holloway, Kent Haney, and George and Harold Postell. Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Mason, Ricky and Jack Holloway, and Bud Postell.

The family received friends from 1-1:50 Saturday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews prior to the services.

Sam Holloway, age 76, of Topton, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018 in a Murphy hospital. He was a native and lifetime resident of Topton. Sam was a Vietnam War Veteran serving in the United States Army.  Sam had worked in tunneling in Atlanta, Georgia and had also worked for Wells and West locally.  He had volunteered with the Disabled American Veterans as a Van Coordinator. He was a member of the Andrews VFW post #7620 where he helped with post events.  He was a member of Briartown Baptist Church, but had been attending Junaluska Baptist Church. Sam enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandkids.

He was the son of the late Jack and Connie Mae Evans Holloway and husband of the late Sharon Holloway, who died November 4, 2002. He was also preceded in death by a son Bobby Holloway and two brothers, Dan and James Holloway.

Surviving are a daughter, Kammy Neal and husband, Bobby of Andrews; two sons, Sammy Holloway and wife, Tammy of Mineral Bluff, Georgia and Marty Holloway of Nantahala; two sisters, Betty Ledford and husband, Hardy and Linda Holloway all of Topton; two brothers, Jack Holloway of Robbinsville and Ricky Holloway of Andrews; four grandchildren, Kyle Holloway, Ali Silvers, Ethan & Evan Neal. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with Rev. Dana Dockery officiating. The interment was in Briartown Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Hayesville American Legion Post 532, Hayesville VFW Post 6812, and Murphy American Legion Post 96. Pallbearers were Darrell and James Holloway, Kent Haney, Shane Gregory, and Kevin and John Robert Allen.  Honorary pallbearers were Jackie Ellis, Ronnie Mason, Jim Paul, Bob Neal, and Jack Martin.

The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, November 5^th at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews.
