Mary Jo O’Dell Timpson: Obituary
Obituaries February 22, 2020Mrs. Mary Jo O’Dell Timpson, 96 of Murphy, NC went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 15, 2020. She was the daughter of the late William McKinley O’Dell and Leila Seabolt O’Dell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil J. Timpson; daughters, Nancy Lynn Timpson and Lisa Timpson Fair; son F. Daniel Timpson; brother, Junior O’Dell; sisters, Frances O’Dell, Eloise Lovingood and half-sister, Cheryl Ann O’Dell.
Visitation will be held at Townson-Rose Funeral Home on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral services immediately following. Burial will be at Hiwassee Baptist Church Cemetery following the funeral on Saturday. The Reverend James Beasley and Dr. Eddis Dockery will preside at the funeral services. Pallbearers will be Mark Kephart, Jeremy Kephart, Wes Timpson, Ken Timpson, Jason Cooke and Terry Fair. Honorary Pallbearers will be Darrell Timpson, Gary Timpson and Jeff Lovingood.
Mary Jo is survived by her children and their spouses, James and LaVonne Timpson of McDonough, GA, Patricia and Jerry Kephart of Murphy, NC; son-in-law, Terry S. Fair of Tyrone, GA; daughter-in-law, Sharon Timpson of Lawrenceville, GA; special cousins, loved and appreciated by the family, Linda Kaye Seabolt and the Rev. James Beasley; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Mary Jo and her family were fortunate to have helped raised 3 nephews who were like brothers in the family, Ronald W. Timpson, deceased, of Locust Grove, GA, Darrell Timpson of McDonough, GA and Gary Timpson of Jonesboro, GA.
Mary Jo was born on May 3, 1923 in Fontana, NC. She was raised in the Great Depression era and experienced many tragic losses at a young age. When Mary Jo was 6, her mother passed away. She also lost her older sister Frances, who died at only 8 years old. Mary Jo and her siblings were taken in and raised by her grandparents, William Napoleon “Poley” and Josephine “Josey” Seabolt. Mary Jo graduated from Murphy High School in 1940. She married Cecil Timpson on January 6, 1943. After Cecil returned from his military service in WWII, the family settled in the Peachtree community and operated a grain mill. In 1948, the family moved to Tillamook, Oregon and lived there for several years. During this time, Nancy Lynn Timpson was born, but passed away as an infant. The family moved back and forth to North Carolina several times over the years, but eventually came back to Murphy permanently in the early 70’s.
Mary Jo was a homemaker for most of her life but did work outside the home in a restaurant that she and Cecil once owned and operated. She also worked in the school lunchroom at Murphy Elementary School for a short time and then provided childcare to many children over the years in her home in Murphy. Mary Jo was an active member of Hiwassee Baptist Church and loved to sing in the choir. Her greatest accomplishments were the many children that she raised and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she influenced with her wisdom, kindness and love. Her legacy was her constant encouragement of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to obtain a college education. She felt that a higher education was one of the most important things that any family member accomplished in their life. Mary Jo enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gospel singing and spending time with her family.

Keith Norman Lamontagne: Obituary

Keith Norman Lamontagne, 70, of Hayesville passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 in a Chattanooga, Tennessee hospital. He was a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, where he was raised and worked various jobs. Keith moved to Boston, Massachusetts, where he began work as a clinical social worker. Nearing retirement, he moved to Clay County in 2006, where he continued his work with Clay County Department of Social Services. Keith was known more recently for selling firewood and he had a small shop on Highway 64. He was an avid hiker and camper. He hiked every mountain in New England and had a fondness for Mount Washington. Keith hiked everywhere from the Allagash to the Everglades.
He was the son of Katheryne Cox Lamontagne of South Hadley, Massachusetts and the late Henry Noe Lamontagne. He was also preceded in death by the mother of his two children, Stella Lamontagne.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his loving partner, Joann Thompson of Hayesville; three children, Tina Lamontagne of Birmingham, Alabama, Jeremy Lamontagne and wife, Courtney of Fairfax, Virginia, and Siera Lamontagne and fiancé, Adam Wiedman of Clinton, Massachusetts; four brothers, Henry Lamontagne and wife, Ellen, and Kenneth Lamontagne, all of Springfield, Massachusetts, Michael Lamontagne and wife, Elena of South Hadley, Massachusetts, and Timothy Lamontagne and wife, Alicyn of Brasstown; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2020 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Derek Tilley officiating. The interment will be in the Sweetwater Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy, Henry, Michael, Timothy, and Samuel Lamontagne, and Dustin Thompson.

Susan Florence Brockmann: Obituary
Obituaries February 22, 2020
Susan Florence Brockmann, 66, of Murphy passed away Sunday, February 16, 2020 in a Chattanooga, Tennessee hospital. She was a native of High Point, North Carolina and lived in Greensboro, North Carolina before moving to her home in the mountains of Murphy in 2013, which she loved. Susan worked as a bartender throughout her life. She enjoyed being outside and had a deep love for her dogs and all animals in general. She loved the waterfalls, rivers, and creeks this area provides. Susan loved life and lived life to its fullest. She has left a huge hole in our hearts and lives.
She was the daughter of the late Bill and Doty Coleman.
Surviving are her loving husband, Lee Brockmann; a sister, Nancy Melton; two brothers, Billy and Tim Coleman; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved four cats and two dogs.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Virginia A. Wade, 82, of Murphy passed away in her home Sunday, February 9, 2020. Born in Binghamton, New York, she came here to Murphy 28 years ago from Tampa, Florida. She was a member of the Murphy Seventh-day Adventist Church.
She leaves behind six children, Robbin, Merri, Jimmy, Mike, Debbie, and Sandy; sister, Joyce; nephew, David; sister-in-law, Ann; and nieces, Rayma and Robbi; 13 grandchildren, Dwayne, Daniel, Jimmy John, Joey, Steven, Harrison, Cheyenne, Aryzona, John, Jamey, Jennifer, Joshua, and Kortni; and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Ada Dalrymple Wade; brother, Richard Wade; grandson, Michael Dale Tuttle; niece, Julee Rabion; and her youngest son, Paul Wade.

Austin Delano Conley: Obituary
Obituaries February 15, 2020
Austin Delano Conley, fondly known as “Mouse,” went home to be with the Lord on February 10, 2020. He was born on September 18, 1940. He was the husband of the late Brenda Jacobs Conley, who passed away on December 1, 2019. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1961. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #529. His strong work ethic and devotion to provide for his family led him to working several jobs throughout his life, many requiring him to travel from home. No matter where he was working, or how far away, he always looked forward to coming back to his home town of Andrews. Later in life, he worked in the furniture industry, working at Stanley Furniture in Robbinsville for many years and eventually retiring from Baker Furniture in Andrews. He had an entrepreneurial spirit that kept him motivated to have many other ventures ranging from tomato and tobacco farming to opening a garden supply store in his beloved community of Rhodo. Being a self-made master craftsman who loved to work with his hands, he built the house in which he, and his late wife, Brenda, raised their family. His talent for welding produced many beautiful pieces, including wood burning steel stoves that kept the family warm through cold winters.
Many may remember Mouse in his younger years for building and operating a dirt race-car track below his home in Rhodo; and, for wrecking many cars on that track including two Thunderbirds. Others may remember him for his music-making. He taught himself how to play the fiddle, banjo, and guitar and loved to play with his buddies.
Austin was the youngest boy of 10 children belonging to the late Frank and Alberta McCullough Conley. He was proceeded in death by sisters, Rena Walden (Butch) of Bear DE, June McGee of Dalton GA, Jerry Roper (Carl) of Andrews, Jane Raxter (Dennis) of Andrews; and brothers, Frank Conley Jr. (Joy) of Andrews, and David Conley of Andrews. He is survived by his siblings, Douglas Conley of Cookeville TN, Sarah Webster (Larry) of Robbinsville, and Alice Stewart (Jay) of Robbinsville.
Austin is survived by three daughters Jeana Conley of Andrews (Randy Bryant), April Tallant of Robbinsville (Mack Tallant), and Susann McWhorter of Caledonia, MS. He was the proud papaw of three grandsons: Alex Hardin of Atlanta, GA, Chase Hardin of Charlotte, and Jackson Tallant of Robbinsville. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving neighbors who visited him frequently during the last years of his life.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with the Rev. Scott Roper officiating. The interment will be in Valleytown Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Hayesville VFW Post 6812, Hayesville American Legion Post 532, and Murphy American Legion Post 96 and masonic graveside rites conducted by the Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 529. Pallbearers will be Alex and Chase Hardin, Mack and Jackson Tallant, Jon and Greg Conley, David and Dale Raxter, Lloyd and Jamie Donaldson, Todd Webster, Andrew Stewart, and Howell Jacobs.
The family will receive friends from 12-1:45 Saturday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews prior to the services.

Affectionately known as “Miss Jean” from her years of service as the director and owner of Miss Jean’s Early Learning Center in Pensacola, Florida. She helped parents love and care for their children in their formative years.
She was preceded in death by her husband James H. Brooks, Sr.
In addition to many loving friends, and her cherished Chihuahua named Austin, she is survived by three children and their spouses: James H. Brooks, Jr. and wife Debbie, David W. Brooks and wife Debbie, and Karen A. Moree and husband Herb. She is also survived by six grandchildren and their families: Christopher David Brooks and his wife Rebecca Levin Brooks and their children, William Jacob and Amelia Rose Brooks; David Hunter Brooks and his wife Diana Watkins Brooks and their children, Julia Meade and Meredith Miller Brooks; Lindsay Brooks Watson and her husband Doug Watson, and their daughter Sophie Elizabeth Watson; Jamie Nunamaker Williams and her husband Ryan, and their children Katelyn Elise, Clairise Alexandria, and Calvin Henry; Jennifer Nunamaker Crawford and her son Ivan James; and her youngest grandson Noah Joel Moree. Jean took great joy in her many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jean enjoyed gardening, reading and studying her Bible. She was a member of Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida, and of Moss Memorial Baptist Church while she lived with her daughter in North Carolina. She was devoted to her Sunday School class and compatriots in the study of scripture. She loved LeeAnn Ward and Liz Seaton who aided her and were constant companions in her later years. She treasured her neighbors, Ray and Norma Simmons, who are appreciated for their caring support. We are comforted by the knowledge that she rests in Heaven with many loved ones and her Lord and Savior.
Her life was distinguished by her love for her God, family, friends, and neighbors. Indomitable in spirit, fiercely independent, and possessing a natural business acumen, she distinguished herself in life. Her exceptional work ethic and expectations of the same from others set her apart in everything she did, from her studies in scripture to the business she built and operated.
Funeral services will be held at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel on February 14th, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be at the same location and date at 1:00 PM. The chapel is located at 3351 Scenic Highway #90e, Pensacola, FL 32503.

Sally Morgan McTaggart, 72, of Andrews passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020 in an Asheville care center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County. Sally had worked for both Emerson and American Thread. She enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her grandkids play football.
She was the daughter of the late Ralph Newton and Hattie Rachel Rogers Morgan and the wife of the late Charles Marvin “Sonny” McTaggart, who died November 20, 2019. She was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Ray Morgan; and a brother, Richard Morgan.
Surviving are a son, Jeff McTaggart of Andrews; a step-son, Charles David McTaggart of Andrews; a sister, Patsy Deetz of Andrews; two brothers, Billy Ray Morgan and Jimmy Ed Morgan, both of Robbinsville; four grandchildren, Slade and Bailey McTaggart, and Matthew and Nick McTaggart; a great-grandson; a special niece, Shana Kent and several other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2020 in Valleytown Cemetery with Rev. Ralph Barnard officiating. Pallbearers will be Joseph Deetz, Bailey and Slade McTaggart, and Chandler, Michael, and Dale Morgan.

Michael Edward Cox, 53, of Murphy passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at his residence.
He was the son of Ann Plonkey Sepulveda of Three Rivers, Michigan and the late Merlin Dean Cox.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are four daughters, Madison Cox Hedden of Chatsworth, Georgia, Harley Cox of Blue Ridge, Georgia, Samantha Cox of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Danielle Seabolt of Ellijay, Georgia; two sisters, Christine Cox of Three Rivers, Michigan and Carolyn Frohriep of Sturgis, Michigan; and a brother, Harold Cox of Three Rivers.

Doug Ossman: Obituary
Obituaries February 15, 2020
Doug Ossman, 89, of Hayesville passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Thursday, February 13, 2020 at his home. He was a native of Nyack, New York and worked as a civil engineer for the New York Department of Transportation for more than 33 years. He had retired to New Bern, North Carolina, where he had served as a Stephen Minister before moving to Hayesville.
Doug was a member of the Knights of Columbus of the 4th Degree. He was also a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Doug had a big heart, and loved his family and the Lord. He also enjoyed woodcarving, especially birds.
He was the son of the late Edwin Kenneth and Edna Mae Scandell Ossman.
Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Jan Ossman; three daughters, Nancy Blackford and husband, Bill, Gail Messina and husband, Carmen, and Carol Keeping; two sons, Jon Ossman and wife, Sailene, and Dr. Paul Ossman and wife, Paige, and their three children, Kate, Ellie, and Sam Ossman.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2020 in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Alex Ayala and Rev. Mr. Carl Hubbell officiating.
A luncheon will follow in the Sister Terry Fellowship Hall.
The inurnment will be at a later date at Greenleaf Memorial Park in New Bern.

James “Jim” Edward Vance: Obituary
Obituaries February 15, 2020James “Jim” Edward Vance, age 79 of Murphy, NC passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020.
He was born in Allegheny County, PA to the late Robert and Edna Humes Vance. James was a civil engineer. In his younger years, James enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an instructor at Chatuge Gun Club for 15 yeras and was a marksman. James was a humble, kind and loving man. He enjoyed spending time with his family. James was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. br>
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Vance.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sandra Vance; three sons, Edward “Eddie” Vance and wife Randi of Charlotte, NC, Kevin Vance and wife Kristen of Cummings, GA and Tommy Hogsed and wife Angela of Hayesville, NC; one daughter, Jeanette Bulick and husband David of Summerville, SC; one brother, Jack Vance and wife Joanne of Pensacola, FL; one sister, Katheryneann and husband Gene of Philadelphia, PA; and five grandchildren.

Edith Elouise Arrowood Stiles: Obituary
Obituaries February 15, 2020Edith Elouise Arrowood Stiles, age 94 of Murphy passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2020.
Edith was born in Cherokee County, NC to the late John and Della Creasman Arrowood. Edith was a member of Maltby Baptist Church where she was the bookkeeper for over 50 years. She also served as president for the Cherokee County Extension Homemakers group and the bookkeeper for the cattle sales barn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Julius Stiles.
Edith is survived by her sons, Tommy Stiles and wife Pam and Jeff Stiles and wife Lisa; daughter, Beth Stiles; brother, Howard Arrowood and wife Cheryl; sister Dean Minor and husband Dave; grandchildren, Ryan Stiles and wife Christin, Brandon Stiles, Brandi Stiles and Casey Henson and husband Kenny; and great-grandchildren, Bria, Brodi, Della, Tripp and Kylar.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 pm, Friday February 14, 2020 at the Maltby Baptist Church. Pastor Harold Stiles and Pastor Kenny White will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ryan Stiles, Brandon Stiles, Kenny Henson, Mitchell Arrowood, Rick Stiles and Blake Arrowood. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Stiles, Don Stiles and Ronnie Stiles. Georgia “Joy” Shagena: Obituary

It is with laden hearts we announce the passing of our loving sister, and mother, Georgia “Joy” Shagena, February 12, 2020.
Joy was born December 6, 1952 in Harvey, Illinois, but for the last nine years she’s called Murphy, North Carolina her home.
She is preceded in death by both parents: JD and Ruth Garitson, but is survived by daughters: Tammy Lutes and Janie Hill of Kentucky and of Bradenton, Florida; and three loving grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her four sisters: Gail Lapp, spouse (Eli), Judy Colson, (Ray) of Bradenton, Florida and Nancy Clark (James), Robin Kline (Tom) of Murphy NC.
Joy enjoyed attending services and was a member, who attended Messiah Episcopal Church here in Murphy regularly; she also worked diligently in animal rescue.
She had a tenacious heart, and enjoyed volunteering with a passion. It is due to such a passions she found herself working with several local animal outreach programs, including the local Thrift Store—where proceeds are disbursed, and used to provide care for displaced, and sadly, unwanted animals.
It is in closing we humbly invite all community, family, and friends to attend a celebration of life services for Joy on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at 1 pm at the Messiah Episcopal Church located at 76 Peachtree Street Murphy, NC.

He was born in Denver, Colorado to the late George and Mary Gabriel Downer. Don worked for Car Quest in Blairsville, GA. He was a member of Little Brasstown Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Eric Downer.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Hyatt Downer; one daughter, Karie Clayton and husband Bryan; two granddaughters, Laynee Adams and husband Jerome and Lacie Knight; three great-grandchildren, Harper Clayton, Blakelee Knight and Brixton Adams.

Luciano was born in Bejucal, Cuba to Luz and Reina Gonzalez Perez. Luciano worked at the ValleyRiver Casino as a steward.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Julie Congleton Perez; sons, Brenton Barber and wife, Haylie and Barrett Barber and wife, Amber; brothers, Augustin Perez and Daniel Perez and wife, Katherine; sister, Maria Perez; grandchildren, Zane, Zoey and Vincent Barber; nephews, Gary Cunningham and wife, Sabrina and Timothy Daigle; great-niece, Emma Cunningham and great-nephews, Kile Cunningham and Camber Daigle.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m Thursday, February 13, 2020 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel of Murphy.
