The two top teams in the Smoky Mountain Conference took to the diamond on Monday evening in Clay County as Hayesville played host to Robbinsville.
Hayesville entered the game riding a 12-game win streak and ranked first in the SMC, while Robbinsville entered the game looking for their fifth straight victory and ranked second in the conference.
The Black Knights jumped out to an early victory in the top of the first with Bryc Garrison scoring on a Tate Roberts error. That lead would not last long however, as the Yellow Jackets flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five runs on seven hits in the inning. Another big inning in the bottom of the 6th ended the game early thanks to the 10-run rule as Hayesville saw 6 cross the plate in the final frame and took home an 11-1 victory.
Cade Caruso, Michael Mauney, and Peyton McGaha all had a multi-RBI game and Mauney and McGaha led the way with three hits a piece.
Jackson Sellers was outstanding on the mound for the Jackets, allowing just one unearned run on seven hits over six innings while striking out seven. Graylen Orr took the loss for Robbinsville, allowing 9 runs on 14 hits over five innings.
Hayesville and Robbinsville will face off once again on Friday, this time in Graham County.
