Yellow Jacket key player positional breakdown:

#2 So. Logan Caldwell

Caldwell will be taking over the starting quarterback position for Hayesville this year. Caldwell has a strong arm, is very elusive, and above all is accurate throwing the ball. A lot will rest on his shoulders as Hayesville’s offense has many reads. Caldwell’s decision-making could vault Hayesville into a top-three position.

Running Back/H-back:

#7 So. Kyle Lunsford

#23 Sr. Blake McClure

Blake McClure.

McClure coming off a monster Junior year where he rushed for 1435 yards averaging a ridiculous 10 yards per carry. McClure who is going to be a preferred walk-on at App St. is a unique blend of power and speed. He will run you over but will also run away from you. McClure will be capable at times of carrying the Hayesville offense. He was named FYN Sports Co-Preseason Player of the Year, expect him to have a big year and be key to Hayesville trying to break into the big three of the SMC.

Kyle Lunsford will be the power back for Hayesville and will at times play in a split-back formation with McClure while also spelling him at times. After an up and down year as a freshman on varsity. Oftentimes players make a big jump in their junior year as their second year on varsity. Expect that jump this year from Lunsford after being a rare player to get significant time on varsity as a freshman.

Wide Reciever/Tight End:

Tyler Anderson

#1 WR. Fr. Asher Brown

#17 WR. Sr. Tyler Anderson

#40 TE So. Avery Leatherwood

Tyler Anderson is poised to have a breakout senior season for Hayesville, He is fast but also one of the strongest receivers in the conference physically. Expect Anderson to have another good year; Even with a new QB after the loss of last years signal caller in Hayden McClure to transfer.

Avery Leatherwood coming into his first full season on varsity will be an important cog for the Hayesville offense. He has a fantastic set of hands and will be a great safety valve for young quarterback Logan Caldwell. Anticipate Leatherwood to come up with a lot of big first down catches this year.

Asher Brown while only a freshman is electric with the ball in his hands. This is only his second year playing football so while there may be growing pains also expect flashes of his high-level talent. Once the ball is in his hands he can make defenders miss and has breakaway speed.

Offensive Line:

Ethan Taylor

#55 Sr. Ethan Taylor

#70 Sr. Kelton Crawford

The Senior duo of Taylor and Crawford will lead the way on the offensive line for Hayesville. Taylor, an FYN Sports preseason all-conference selection on the offensive line may be undersized but is as physically strong as any lineman in the conference. While Crawford is a mountain of a kid 6’3” 320 lbs yet still surprisingly quick for someone his size.

Defensive Line:

#70 Sr. Kelton Crawford

Crawford will be playing the nose tackle position for Hayesville and expect him to do a great job of stuffing the run. He can be unmoveable at times and when he gets his hands on a runner they don’t get past him.

William Wimpey

#7 So. OLB/DE Kyle Lunsford

#20 Sr. William Wimpey

#55 Sr. Ethan Taylor

Lunsford, an FYN Sports preseason all-conference selection on the defensive line is switching to a flex outside linebacker/defensive end role. He will be a key cog for the Yellow Jackets as he can stuff the run, rush the passer but is also agile enough to cover in pass defense.

William Wimpey probably the pound-for-pound hardest hitter on the team is relentless. Definitely undersized he still finds a way to always get the job done for the Yellow Jackets no matter what role they need him to play.

Ethan Taylor is your ideal middle linebacker. He provides a strong leadership presence for the defense and will stuff the run with the best of them.

Defensive Back:

Cable Krieger

#23 Sr. Blake McClure

#24 Sr. Cable Krieger

McClure while better known for his offensive exploits is also a huge part of the Hayesville defense. He is a big hitter but also the last line of defense for Hayesville playing the deep safety role.

Krieger, an FYN Sports preseason all-conference selection at defensive back. He is at times a lockdown corner, oftentimes last years would choose to target the opposite side of the field from Krieger. As well for a smaller defensive back, he is not afraid to hit, truly a great cover corner who is also great in run support.

Special Teams:

#3 Jr. K Zane Lucksavage

#4 Fr. K Isaac Chandler

#23 Sr. P Blake McClure

#24 Sr. R Cable Krieger

Currently, Hayesville is in an unfamiliar position with a preseason kicking battle with two very capable kickers.

McClure one of the best punters in not only the conference but the state is an understated weapon. He not only wins the field position battle most game but has been known to pick up a first down in the past on fake punts.

Krieger is a slippery quick returner who comes back as the lead returner for the Yellow Jackets after being 12th in the state in total return yards last year.

Hayesville Schedule:

3/1 Franklin

3/5 Robbinsville

3/12 Murphy

3/19 @Andrews

3/26 @Cherokee

4/2 Rosman

4/9 @Swain County

Team Analysis:

This Hayesville Yellow Jacket team is coming into this season looking to have another winning season. The turnaround in year one of head Coach Chad McClures regime was drastic but now the goal is to improve upon it. A solid fourth-place finish last year now to see if they can break into the big three. Hayesville has athletes all over the place but can they play winning football on the offensive and defensive lines will be the question. The pieces are there but many are young so can they grow up quickly? As well depth will be a challenge for Hayesville if they can stay healthy they could be dangerous.
