Lady Jackets Fall to Conference Foe Cherokee
Hayesville Basketball, TeamFYNSports January 20, 2021
The Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets hosted the Cherokee Lady Braves in a conference matchup Tuesday night. The Lady Yellow Jackets fought hard in this matchup and at times looked ready to pull off an upset. The Lady Braves, a very talented team, shot it very well from the three for the night. Ultimately though, Hayesville fell to Cherokee 57-38, falling to 1-2 in conference.

In the first quarter the Lady Yellow Jackets were getting some good looks but had a hard time getting much to fall. They also were able to get to the free throw line but struggled to convert. Cherokee on the other hand got off to a great start scoring 16 in the quarter. This led to the Braves ending the first quarter with a 16-8 lead.
The second quarter was much of the same with the Braves executing well on offense. The Lady Yellow Jackets never could find their offensive flow in the game. It will be a test for this Hayesville team to hit their ceiling without executing better offensively. Defensively the team is making progress, capable of shutting teams down for a stretch. With that said Cherokee extended their lead to 31-19 at the half.

In the third quarter Hayesville fought hard and played pretty evenly with Cherokee. Everytime Hayesville would start to shrink the lead, Cherokee would answer back with a bucket of their own. It felt like for a stretch Hayesville may push themselves back into the game but fell just short. The third quarter ended with the Lady Braves leading 46-31.
In the fourth quarter Cherokees lead was too much for the Yellow Jackets to overcome. Cherokee extended their lead early and put the game out of reach. This Lady Yellow Jacket team is more than capable of playing with or even beating this Cherokee team. To do that though the Lady Yellow Jackets will need to execute better offensively. The Lady Yellow Jackets fell 57-38, with the game being closer than the final score may indicate.
The Lady Yellow Jackets next play on Wednesday night at Robbinsville in a conference game that had to be rescheduled from earlier in the season.
