Chesley Daniel “Dan” Giles, 78, of Charlotte passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. He was born in Oconee County, South Carolina. Dan attended Young Harris College, where he met his wife. He later graduated from Atlanta Law School. He enjoyed his work in management of industrial equipment repair and retired as plant manager. As a member of Christ UMC, Charlotte, he served in many capacities, including working with their food pantry, participating with mission building teams, and serving with Room in the Inn. He enjoyed spending time gardening, tinkering with his HAM radio and watching Star Trek.

Dan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and son. His greatest joy was his family.

He was the son of Imogene King Giles of Stanley, North Carolina and the late Chesley Daniel Giles Sr.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 56 years, Judith Ann Smart Giles; his daughter, Wendi Giles Byas and husband, Karl; and his two grandchildren, Kelly and Owen Byas, whom he loved dearly.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Ledford’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Humphries officiating.

Memorials may be made in memory of Chesley Daniel “Dan” Giles to the Ledford’s Chapel United Methodist Cemetery Fund, c/o Betty Ashe, 285 W.J. Cabe Road, Hayesville, NC 28904.
