Amanda Jane James Hannah, 75, of Murphy passed away Monday, November 12, 2018 in a Murphy care facility. Jane was a native of Danville, Virginia, but was raised in the Bessemer City, North Carolina area. She lived in Germany for three years, but was living in Fort Gordon, Georgia, near Augusta, before moving to Murphy in 1993. Jane was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She loved her children and making a home for her family. Jane was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, who will be deeply missed.
She was the daughter of the late Efton Clifton and Hattie Sneed James. She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Scott Hannah; a sister, Peggy Jewel Paysour; and a brother, Richard James.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Verlen Hannah; a daughter, Susan Lee Hannah and husband, Steven Goldberg of Evans, Georgia; two sons, Stephen Mark Hannah and wife, Margaret of Apex, North Carolina, and Jason Keith Hannah and wife, Mitzi of Martinez, Georgia; five sisters, Betty Croft, and Irene Clark and husband, Rev. Roy Dean, all of Bessemer City, Mary Ellen Shope and husband, Rev. Larry, and Gail Carter and husband, Rev. Edward, all of Murphy, and Ruth Lynn James of Young Harris, Georgia; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018 in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Edward Carter officiating. The interment was in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Matthew Hannah, Isaac and Jacob Carter, John Paysour, Jordan Shook, and James Shope.
The family received friends from 12-1:45 Saturday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
