Two Hayesville residents arrested in Florida on drug charges

HAYESVILLE, NC – Florida’s Clermont Police Department arrested two male Hayesville residents Thursday, Aug. 8, on multiple drug charges.

Brett Dakota Wilson, 23, and Christopher Dwight Barnard, 18, who were listed as homeless on the obtained police report, were charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine
  •  Possession of Marijuana – Over 20 grams
  • Possession of Controlled Substance – Hydrocodone
  • Introduction of Contraband to a Correctional Facility

Christopher Dwight Barnard:

  • Possession of Controlled Substance – Hydrocodone
  • Possession of Marijuana – Over 20 grams

Barnard was released on a $4000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 3. At the time of publication, Wilson is currently detained in Lake County, FL on an $8000 bond.

Wilson made recent news in connection to the murder of 17-year-old Hayesville resident Jordan Ramon Garcia. Wilson, who frequently resided with Garcia prior to the teen’s disappearance, was wanted in late May for questioning in the homicide investigation by Clay County Sheriff’s Office. Wilson was apprehended June 1 in Cherokee County, NC, on unrelated warrants stemming from Cherokee County and Towns County, GA. Wilson has not been charged in relation to Garcia’s death.

Wilson and Barnard are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
