Christy Peters Campbell: Obituary
Obituaries October 21, 2019
Christy Peters Campbell was born July 2, 1928 and died on October 19, 2019. Christy was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina and lived much of her life there before moving to Andrews in 2003.
Christy spent many happy years in Andrews, where her mother grew up, and she attended to her aunt, Jean Christy with devotion until Jean’s death in 2016. Christy enjoyed especially her good friend, Ruth Cochran, who was a devoted friend, and they always enjoyed a weekly trip to Murphy to go to thrift stores and eat dinner.
The family would like to thank Lucas and Heather Luther for being so kind to her and helping her in many ways for the past number of months.
She was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth Peters and Cornelia Christy Peters, as well as her husband, Glen Campbell. Christy was also predeceased by her first cousins, Eb Jordan and John Christy.
Surviving are her other first cousins, Robert H. Christy, William R. Christy and Thomas G. Christy, as well as many other cousins and their families.
A private burial will occur in the near future.

Paula Jean Benner Reilly: Obituary
Obituaries October 17, 2019Paula Jean Benner Reilly, 58, of Murphy passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at her residence. She was a native of Farmingville, New York, where she worked as a medical transcriptionist for more than 20 years. Paula retired to Cherokee County in 2000 with her family. Paula was an avid bowler and huge Grateful Dead fan. She loved laying out on the beach and vacationing on cruises. Paula was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her children and grandchildren.
She was the daughter of Wanda Mae Benner of Indianapolis, Indiana and the late Neal Benner. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kyra Marie Reilly; and a sister, Pamela Benner.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband of more than 40 years, Daniel Thomas Reilly Sr.; four daughters, Melanie Hand and husband, Al of Riverhead, New York, Desiree Reilly and Shannan Crapse and husband, Tommy, all of Murphy, and Erin Cable and husband, Clint of Andrews; a son, Danny Reilly of Murphy; a sister, Jackie Calaway of Nashville, Tennessee; a brother, Steven Benner and wife, Cherry of Indianapolis, Indiana; 14 grandchildren, Rebecca, Jojo, Elizabeth, DeSean, Tyler, Dakoda, Joseph, Kyra, Thomas, Rhiannon, James, Jerry, Jonathan, and Aurora; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was born in native of Athens, TX and the son of the late Robert and Susie Ruth Hunt Hodge. He was a Butcher.

Joyce Jolly Bindley: Obituary

Joyce Jolly Bindley, 78, of Andrews passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 at her residence. She was born in Evanston, Illinois and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana. She lived throughout the country and abroad with her first husband, who was in the military. Joyce was a loving homemaker and mother. She loved talking and gossiping on the phone with friends and family.
She was the daughter of the late Baldwin G. and Edith Brown Witty. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harry Bindley, who died August 29, 2004, and her second husband, Roger Dale Jolly, who died April 8, 2016.
Surviving are two sons, Scott Bindley and wife, Sandi of Andrews, and Eric Bindley and wife, Tammy of Orlando, Florida.
No services are planned at this time.

Laura R. Chamberlain Shelton: Obituary
Obituaries October 13, 2019Laura R. Chamberlain Shelton, 58, of Murphy passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019 in a Murphy hospital from kidney failure. She was a native of Elmira, New York, but lived in Sarasota, Florida. Her and her husband owned Tree Trimming & Removal Service for more than 26 years. Laura enjoyed visiting flea markets, attending auctions, and riding her motorcycle down the strip at the beach. She enjoyed gambling and had a favorite seat at several casinos. Laura also enjoyed fishing with her husband. Following the death of her husband, she moved to Murphy in 2015 to be close to family.
She was the daughter of Betty Chamberlain Brown of Murphy and the late Wendell Chamberlain and the wife of the late Wayne Shelton, who died in 2015. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Butch Brown and Carolyn Jones.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a sister, Dee Kevas and husband, Ken of Murphy; a brother, Keith Chamberlain and wife, Cathy of Dunnellon, Florida; six nephews, Brian Kevas, Tracey Brown, Chris Baker, Cameron Killian, Kevin Kevas, and Tim Hedrick; and three nieces, Samantha Chamberlain, Heather Brown, and Skye Kevas.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Michael H. Grand: Obituary
Obituaries October 9, 2019Michael H. Grand, 47, of Hayesville passed away Monday, October 7, 2019 at his residence. He was a native and longtime resident of Florida. Michael worked as a tree trimmer for Tri-County Tree Service and enjoyed climbing trees. Michael was an avid fisherman and loved the ocean. He also loved just about everything outdoors. He liked discovering new places and traveling. He was a huge Florida Gator fan. Michael adored his grandchildren and was a proud grandfather.
Michael was a fighter and battled diabetes for over ten years.
He was the son of the late Marvin Arthur and Peggy Lee Mathews Grand. He was also preceded in death by his step-mother, Marian Grand; and a brother, Chris Grand.
Surviving are a daughter, Marchayla Grand of Live Oak, Florida; two sons, Michael Grand of Stuart, Florida and Marc Grand of Live Oak, Florida; two sisters, Kelly Hennessy, and Michelle Ramsey and husband, Anthony, all of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; a brother, John Grand and wife, Shari of Sunrise, Florida; a sister-in-law, Kim Grand of Hollywood, Florida; five grandchildren, Taylor, Makinzly, Ricky, Kobe, and Marc; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Stuart, Florida.

LaVanche Arp, age 92 of Murphy passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019 at her son’s home. She was born in Isabella,TN to the late Ernest David Patterson and Myrtle Callie Hughes Patterson. She loved to sing and enjoyed singing in her church choir. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Herdis Kenton Arp; daughter, Sandra Jean Davis; brother, Jerry Patterson; sisters, Remella Watson, Juanita Franey, Imojean Marlow and Ellen Tatum and daughter-in-law, Linda Raper Arp.
She is survived by her sons, Larry and wife Vicki, Stephen, Denver and Philip Arp; daughters, Patricia Payne, Shirley Payne and husband Nick, Donna Jones and husband Jerry, Carolyn Allison and husband Keith; brothers, Eldon, David, Danny and Paul Patterson; sisters, Sue Hightower, Coreen Parrish and Laura Jane McClure and many grandchildren.

Dorothy Ann Allison, age 68 of Brasstown, NC passed away Monday, October 7, 2019 at North East GA Medical Center.
She was born in Cherokee County, NC to the late Hobert and Inez Holloway Morrow. Dorothy worked as a fast food manager. She loved listening to gospel music and was a member of Moccasin Creek Baptist Church. Dorothy loved spending time with her husband and her dog, Buddy.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Ricky Morrow and one sister, Mary Lou Morrow.
She is survived by her husband, Willis Allison; one daughter, Connie Roberts and husband Jim; one brother, Charles Morrow and wife Karen; three sisters, Jean Brown, Linda Ledford and Diane Freeman; one granddaughter, Whitney Roberts.

Kenneth “Tanky” Thomas, age 64 of Murphy, NC passed away Thursday, October 3, 2019 at his residence.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Cherokee County, NC and the son of the late William and Velma Sprinkles Thomas. Tanky was a carpenter. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
He is survived by three sons, Johnny, Brett and Brad Thomas; two daughters, Heather and Drew Thomas; one brother, Joel Thomas; one sister, Sandra Coleman; and several grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 3 pm, Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Murphy, NC. Rev. Edward Carter will officiate. Anna Mae Bates, age 96 of Murphy passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Murphy Rehab and Nursing. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Parks and Hattie Howard Parks. She was a homemaker. Anna was a longtime member of Ranger Baptist Church where she taught adult Sunday School for 37 years, WMU director, church treasurer and helped with Vacation Bible School, and all other church functions and activities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Emerson Bates Sr.; daughter, Joyce Ann Bates; granddaughter, Kimberly Lee Daniels and brother, Howard Parks.
Anna is survived by her sons, Willard Emerson Bates, Jr and wife, Margie and Richard Bates and wife, Peggy; sister, Hazel Morris; grandson, Phillip Bates and 3 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2pm Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Ranger Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jimmy Hogsed will officiate. Ranger Baptist Church deacons will serve as pallbearers.

Rev. Frank Hamilton: Obituary
Obituaries October 4, 2019Rev. Frank Hamilton, age 86, of Andrews, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 5, 2019 at his residence. He was a native of Kearny, New Jersey and later served in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. Frank had worked as a long-haul truck driver before God called him into the ministry. Frank graduated from Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, Mississippi where he received his Masters of Divinity. He had pastored in Mississippi and was called to Andrews Presbyterian Church in 1990 where he later retired. He then followed God’s calling to minister in Scotland for the next five years. Upon returning to the United States, he was called back into ministry to Indiana and eventually returned to Andrews Presbyterian Church in 2011, retiring for a second time in 2018.
In addition to the churches, he had worked with the Hebron Colony and Good Samaritan programs. Frank was a member of the Lion’s Club in Mississippi, North Carolina, and Scotland. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking on the Appalachian Trail. He was Chaplain and member of the VFW Post 7620 in Andrews.
He was the son of the late Frank Edward, Sr. and Jennie Alexander Hamilton. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Szalkowski and a son-in-law, Alford Kimble.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Helen Sawyer Hamilton; two daughters, Nancy Kimble of Peachtree and Elizabeth Derreberry and husband, Douglas “Doodle” of Andrews; three sons, Richard Hamilton and wife Teresa of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Russell Hamilton and wife, Cynthia of Ellijay, Georgia, and Robert Hamilton and wife, Allison of Andrews; a brother, David Hamilton of Georgetown, South Carolina; thirteen grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Andrews Presbyterian Church with Rev. Larry Wilson officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Hayesville VFW Post 6812, Hayesville American Legion Post 532, and Murphy American Legion Post 96.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:50 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the Andrews Presbyterian Church prior to the service.
