Obituaries November 6, 2019Jack McDonald, age 79 of Murphy passed away Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital.
Jack was born in Cherokee County, NC to Gladys Stiles McDonald and the late Lawton McDonald. He loved farming and was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Jack loved the Lord and was a deacon at Mt. Liberty Baptist Church and a member of Journey Fellowship.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth McDonald and grandchild, Jeremy McDonald.
Jack is survived by his mother, Gladys Stiles McDoanld; son, Randall McDonald and wife Misty; daughter, Janet Dockery and husband George; mother of his children, Diane Morrow; sister, Betty Hughes and husband Hurbert; grandchildren, Allyson Murphy, Tyler McDonald and Starr Sneed; great-grandchildren, Colt and Asher Murphy; sister-in-law, Carolyn McDonald and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8PM, Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy.
Funeral services will be held at 2PM, Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home in Murphy. Pastor Patrick Garrett and Pastor Gerald Derreberry will officiate. Pallbearers will be Richard Dillard, Donald Panther, Claude Hughes, Ben Crisp, Brian Hughes and Tyler McDonald. Burial will follow in Mt. Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Wayne “Ed” Fleming: Obituary
Obituaries November 3, 2019Wayne “Ed” Fleming, age 57 of Brasstown, NC passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the Clay County Care Center.
He was born in Young Harris, GA to the late Wayne Fleming. He was a carpenter. Ed was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and loved his church. He volunteered for several fire departments and rescue squads. Ed enjoyed riding motorcycles.
He is survived by one son, Ethan Fleming; one daughter, Alyssa Daniel and husband Logan; one brother, Gerald Fleming; one sister, Susie Godfrey and husband Tony; and three grandchildren, Aiden, Brawley and Axel.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Murphy First Baptist Church. Rev. Chris Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in the Bellview Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Darrell Decker, Bobby Barton, Jeff Fowler, Cody Messer, Jordan Messer and Bobby Blair. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Rose, Dennis Ashe, Johnny Anderson, Jeff Robertson, Barry Clayton and Danny Clayton.

Carolyn Andersen: Obituary
Obituaries November 3, 2019
Carolyn Andersen, 88, of Murphy passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019 at her residence. She was a native of Longs, South Carolina. Carolyn lived in Murphy with her family for the past five years. She was a lifelong member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Longs, South Carolina.
Carolyn was a loving grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was the daughter of the late Sam and Hancy Watson and the wife of the late Braxton Andersen, who died January 7, 1988. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Walker Watson.
Surviving are a daughter, Sonja Short and husband, Bob of Murphy; a son, Kin Andersen of Mars Hill, North Carolina; a brother, Bill Watson of Longs, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Peter Horne, Robert Short, Andy Andersen, Crystal Turner, Jason Andersen, and Zachary Andersen; 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorial services at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Copperhill, Tennessee and Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Longs, South Carolina will be announced at a later date.

Alice J. Matheson: Obituary
Obituaries November 3, 2019Alice J. Matheson, 79, of Warne passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019 in a Clay County care facility. She was a native of Madisonville, Tennessee. She had lived and worked in Security, Colorado for 20 years and finally moved to Hayesville in 1986. Alice was of the Baptist faith.
Alice was a loving mother and spent her life caring for others.
She was the daughter of the late William B. and Nettie Spurling Green. She was also preceded in death by the father of her two daughters and former husband, Cecil L. Willis; and two brothers, Walter B. Green and an infant brother.
Surviving are two daughters, Dewana Lyvers and husband, Michael of Warne and Denise Marie Derreberry and husband, Billy Ray of Andrews; two sisters, Mattie Holloway and Hattie Myers, both of Louisville, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Robert Lyvers, Dakota Lyvers, and Kyle Derreberry; two great-granddaughters, Katie Lyvers and Akyla Derreberry; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Danny Moss officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:50 Saturday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.

Ronald William Young: Obituary
Obituaries October 29, 2019
Ronald William Young, 87, of Tyrone, Georgia, formerly of Murphy, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019. He was born in Waterville, Ohio, but was raised in East Lansing, Michigan, from the age of 14. Ron served in the United States Air Force and was a Korean War veteran. Following his service, Ron worked for Kraft Foods for five years before moving on to Reynolds Aluminum, where he worked for 28 years, retiring in 1993 as a regional manager. He was a member and past board president of the Grocery Manufacturers Representative organization. He was a past member and deacon at Valley Baptist Church in Towson, Maryland, past member at Murphy First Baptist Church, and current member of Grace Pointe Church in Peachtree City, Georgia. Ron enjoyed his dogs and loved his grandkids. He also enjoyed vacations at Emerald Isle, North Carolina with his brother and family. He liked taking his kids to Capital Raceway to enjoy funny car and drag races and his children were thrilled when Ron was able to get them into the pits at the track. Ron displayed an attitude of gratitude throughout his life and was known for asking, “What can I do for you?”
He was the son of the late Paul Farnsworth and Opal Pearl Disher Young. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul “Bud” Young.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Ann Young; a daughter, Cindy Leseueur and husband, Jamey of Tyrone, Georgia; a son, Ron Young and wife, Joy of Franklin, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Jason Young and wife, Jolynn, Stephanie Jessup and husband, Mike, Sean Young, and Christine Young; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; and his dog, Cindy, who means the world to him.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2019 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Murphy American Legion Post 96, Hayesville VFW Post 6812, and Hayesville American Legion Post 532. The Pastor Bruce Black will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jamey Leseueur, Ron Young, Sean Young, Jason Young, and Mike Jessup.

Henry Auden Thistle: Obituary
Obituaries October 29, 2019Henry Auden Thistle, 35, of Brasstown passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019. He was a native and lifetime resident of Clay County. Auden worked at Ironman Industries in Hayesville for several years as a machinist. Auden was a talented artist and enjoyed motocross. He was a lifelong lover of Batman. He always put others first and their needs before himself. Auden was a devout Christian.
He was the son of Ted and Jill Thistle of Brasstown.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Haley Thistle of Brasstown. He is also survived by his uncle and mentor, Paul Thistle and wife, Brenda of Blue Ridge, Georgia, as well as several other aunts and uncles.
Auden will be remembered by his many friends, whom he loved like family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Murphy Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Chris Flick officiating.
A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.

Rev. Leonard Carl Mayfield: Obituary

Rev. Leonard Carl Mayfield, age 91 of Hayesville, NC passed away peacefully Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee, GA.
He was born February 2, 1928 in Townley, Alabama to the late Dewitt Talmadge and Ethel Sparks Mayfield. He was a US Army WWII veteran; he served in the 1940’s. Leonard lived in Clay County for over 60 years. He began ministry in April 1948. Leonard dedicated his life to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was the co-founder of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Hayesville. Leonard was the number one prayer warrior. He had so much love for people and especially family. Leonard will be truly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Loretta Jean Mayfield; and siblings, Alene Phillips, Buddy Mayfield, Louise Smart and Barbara Ivey.
This Godly man is survived by two daughters, Gwen Bowers and husband Travis of Destin, FL and Kay Cox (Max) Elum of De Funiak Springs, FL; one brother, Paul Mayfield and wife Shirley; one sister, LaFonda King; grandchildren, Tonya Lightner and husband Johnny, Bridgette Dennis and husband Joel and Justin Cox and wife Caitlin; five great-grandchildren, Erica Beck, Brett Dennis (Casey), Savannah Porter (Cameron) Victoria Mitchell (Kolton) and Emma Cox; six great-great grandchildren, Seraphim Beck, Sawyer Dennis, Kyleigh Grace Porter, Thatcher Dennis, John Luke Mitchell and Kynlee Reese Porter; and special nieces, Debbie Phillips and Mary Matheson.
Funeral Services will be held at 5 pm, Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Hayesville. Rev. Chris Rumfelt will officiate. Burial will be in the Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Rumfelt, Larry Rumfelt, Eddie Mayfield, Tommy Mayfield, Tony Anderson and Real Desjardins.

Marie Honore Gordon, age 103 of Hayesville, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019.
Marie was born in Slatington, PA to the late Bernard and Mae Hofelich. She was a homemaker and volunteered at the Clay County Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels, Nantahala Regional Library and REACH. Marie was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for over 25 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John French Gordon.
Marie is survived by her sons, Jack and wife Helen, Bernard, Peter and wife Dawn and Michael Gordon; daughters, Judy Carlin and husband Peter and Trish Nicholas and husband John; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and three nieces.

Roy Dale Long: Obituary

Roy Dale Long, age 88, of Hayesville, NC passed away Saturday, October 26, 2019 surrounded by family.
Dale, most commonly known as Daddy, Pa Pa, and Pappy, spent his entire life focused on spreading love to all that met him. He was at complete piece when producing magic through his woodworking talents. Dale made sure to pass down his love for family and God’s wondrous creations to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The world is a little darker now that he is no longer with us so it is up to all of us to carry on in his absence and represent him as he would expect.
Dale was born to the late Buford and Donnie Maney Long on April 19, 1931 in Rainbow Springs, NC. He proudly served in the Army and was a Korean War era veteran.
In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by brothers, Paul B, James, Billy and R.L. Long; and sister, Eula Mae Long.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Willa Mae Long; brother, Robert Long; three children, Roger (Peggy) Long, Arlene (Mike) Hall and Richard (Linda) Long; seven grandchildren, Phillip “Barney” (Vanity) Hall, Kelly (Jamie) Davis, Connie (Lamar) Schandera, Karla (Roger) Miller, Jennifer (Scott) Baugh, Joseph (Rosa) Potts and Anita (Jake) Sieg. 19 great-grandchildren; Zakaree Evans, Kala Schandera, Taylor Hall, Joshua VanLandingham, Trey Hall, Jay Baugh, Maggie Schandera, Trae Miller, Levi Miller, Cody Baugh, Brady Hall, Riley Baugh, Tyler Hilton, Andrew Miller, Delaney Hilton, Wayne Davis, Olivia Potts, Hailey Ratliff and Gabby Ratliff; two great-great-grandchildren, Karen Hester and Adalynn Ratiff; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, November 1, 2019 at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Hayesville. Rev. Clark Moss will officiate. Full military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #96 Murphy, American Legion Post 532 Hayesville, VFW Post 6812, Hayesville, NC and the Marine Corp League Marble, NC.

Barbara “Bobbie” Pachy: Obituary
Obituaries October 27, 2019Barbara “Bobbie” Pachy, 79, of Hayesville passed away Friday, October 25, 2019 in Clay County Care Center. She was a native of Unionville, Michigan and graduated from Unionville High School. She had worked most of her life as a real estate agent and was licensed in both Michigan and Florida. She moved to Naples Florida in 1987 and finally retiring to Hayesville in 2004. Bobbie was a member of Oak Forest United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Women’s Methodist Union. Bobbie was a 42year member and past Madam President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Harrison, Michigan. She enjoyed arts and crafts as well as working in the yard and caring for animals. Barbara was an avid senior softball player, while living in Florida.
She was the daughter of the late Lester and Alyee Hovey Bosley. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Curtis Frazier; and several sisters.
Surviving are her husband of 31 years, Julius Pachy of Hayesville; a daughter, Quinn Betts and husband, Craig; three sons, Shannon Frazier, Brian Pachy, and Julis Pachy, III; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
No services are planned at this time.

Grace Elaine Skojac: Obituary
Obituaries October 27, 2019Grace Elaine Skojac, age 81, of Murphy, passed away Friday, October 25, 2019 at her residence. She was born in Sample, Kentucky to the late Alberta and John Corley. She was a long-time employee of RCA record company in Indianapolis, Indiana where she worked from 1956 to 1985. Grace re-located and resided in Asheville, North Carolina in 1985 with her family until 1995. In 1995, Grace and her husband Dan, retired and re-located to Murphy where they owned and operated Mountain View Marina in Bear Paw until 2000. She was an avid reader of God’s word and active member of St. Williams Catholic Church.
Grace’s life was marked by sacrifice and giving of herself, her faith, and devotion to God, and lovingly serving her family. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Anthony Absher, who died in 1985, and her Aunt Grace, who died in 1991.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Dan Skojac of Murphy; a daughter, Christy Russell and her husband, Andy; a son, Danny Skojac and wife, Stephanie; two step-daughters, Debbie Skojac- Hagewood and her husband, Steve and Joni Williams and her husband, Steve; a beloved sister, Barbara Corley Burns; ten grandchildren, Nathan, Ben, Kayla, Hannah, Madeline, Jesse, Daniel, Ethan, Anthony, and Sadie and two great grandchildren, Knox and Miles.
A memorial service will be held at St. Williams Catholic Church and announced at a later date.

She was the daughter of the late Henry and Griffie Truett. Betty enjoyed cooking and canning and worked as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Andrews First Baptist Church.
Betty is survived by her husband, Giles Coffey; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Lori Coffey; brother, Goldie Truett; grandchildren, Dan Coffey and wife Stephanie and Beth Kinzly and husband Chad; and great-grandchildren, Truett and Loc Coffey.
