The Jackets rattled off their 8th win in a row with a 12-10 victory over Swain County last night to move into sole possession of first place in the Smoky Mountain Conference.

Kyle Shaheen got the win on the mound for Hayesville, lasting 5.2 innings and giving up 10 runs (8 earned) on 7 hits. Chance Hughes came on in relief and pitched 1.1 innings of nearly perfect ball, allowing one hit and zero runs.

Bradyn Ruais took the loss for the Devils, throwing 4 innings and allowing 6 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits while striking out 5 and walking 6.

Hayesville lit up the scoreboard first thanks to a Jackson Sellers sac fly that scored Michael Mauney in the first inning. In the fourth and fifth innings, the Jackets bats came alive as they scored 4 in the 4th and 6 in the 5th.

Jackson Sellers and Chance Hughes each collected three hits for the Jackets on the evening while hitting back-to-back in the lineup. Sellers led the team with five runs batted in. Michael Mauney had an eagle eye at the plate, drawing five walks while tacking on three stolen bases.

Carter Hayes tried his best to get the Devils back in this one with a grand slam homerun in the bottom of the sixth, but Hughes’ relief work on the mound stopped anymore runs from coming across the plate.

Hayes and Will Holden both led Swain with 2 hits a piece.

Hayesville will take on Cherokee on Friday, while Swain County will face Rosman on Thursday.
