Lady Jackets Knock Off SMC Foe In Round One, Now Set Focus On Bishop McGuinness

Hayesville, NC- The storied Hayesville Lady Jackets basketball team is looking to make yet another deep playoff run in 2024, as they defeated familiar foe Robbinsville in round one of the NCHSAA 1A State Playoffs by a score of 49-45.

Every once in a while conference rivals meet each other in the playoffs and it makes for an electric atmosphere as both team’s fans usually pack the gym. Last night was no exception as the Lady knights of Robbinsville traveled to Hayesville to face the Lady Jackets.

These two had met three times previously this season and Hayesville had taken all three games but the margin of victory was slim in all three, with one even going to overtime to decide the victor.

The Lady Knights came out hot and led most of the first half, taking a 25-24 lead into the locker room at the break. Robbinsville then won the third quarter, taking a 37-35 lead into the final frame.

Hayesville was able to put it together when it mattered, however, outscoring the Lady Knights in the final quarter by a tune of 15-8 and earning a 49-45 first round victory.

Ava Shook once again led the way for the Jackets with 16 points and Brooke Graves was the lone other Jacket in double figures with 12.

Hayesville will now travel to Bishop McGuinness for round two of the State Playoffs.
