The Hayesville Yellow Lady Jackets traveled to Highlands to take on the Lady Highlanders Friday night. The two teams battled it out in the 1st half and it was a very competitive game. Hayesville struggled all night offensively though. When the Lady Highlanders got hot in the third quarter it put the game out of reach. The Lady Highlanders went on to win the game 45-27.

1st Quarter:

The Lady Yellow Jackets got off to a slow start and not many shots were falling early in the first quarter. They got down 5-0 early before getting their first basket of the game from freshman Mallory Peck. Highlands, though, found a little more success early and maintained about a five point lead throughout the majority of the quarter. Hayesville got a basket with two seconds left in the quarter on a great feed from Lila Payne to Brooke Graves to end the quarter down 8-11.

2nd Quarter:

Highlands came out and switched it up on Hayesville in the second quarter switching to a full court press defense. Coincidentally, Hayesville did the same; the difference was the Lady Yellow Jackets were more effective in doing it. Yet neither team was making much of their opportunities on offense. The two teams had more points at the free throw line in the first half of the second quarter than they did from the field. Highlands hit more baskets down the stretch though and extended  their lead to 19-12 by halftime.

3rd Quarter:

Highlands came out and blitzed the Lady Yellow Jackets to start the quarter, extending their lead up to 19. Hayesville finally scored in the quarter but found themselves trailing by a very large deficit. The Lady Yellow Jackets had been playing well defensively but the proverbial dam had broken. Without being able to get much done offensively, the defense started to get holes poked in it. By quarter’s end Hayesville trailed Highlands 41-18.

4th Quarter:

It was good to see lots of younger Lady Yellow Jackets get in during the fourth quarter. Hayesville showed some promise in this game but the offense just wasn’t there for the young team tonight. Hayesville went on to lose 45-27 to the Lady Highlanders.

Leading Scorers:

Mallory Peck 10 points

Cecelia Jones 5 points
