Lady Yellow Jackets Overcome Sluggish Start

The Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets traveled to Cherokee county to take on the Andrews Lady WIldcats in a midweek game. The Lady Yellow Jackets struggled early in the game offensively while Andrews made several contested three point looks. Hayesville overcame their early struggles to overwhelm the Lady Wildcats who simply could not keep up. The game finished with scoring contributions from 10 different Hayesville players helping the team to a 58-23 win.

Lizzy Brusini makes a fastbreak layup.

In the first quarter Andrews came out looking to defend their home court, playing as tough as they had against an opponent all year. Thanks to a couple early three pointers Andrews took an early lead over Hayesville. The Lady Yellow Jackets were getting some good scoring opportunities but they had a lid on their basket early in the game. Multiple shots circled the rim but rolled out, but late in the quarter Hayesville took back the lead with a few shots finally falling.

The second quarter started with a Hayesville 7-6 lead. Andrews increased their scoring output in the second quarter but it was not near enough to keep up with Hayesville. For all the shots the Lady Yellow Jackets missed in the first quarter that many more were made in the second quarter. Hayesville behind 8 second quarter points from Lila Payne took a 26-14 lead into halftime.

With the game still close coming into the third quarter, the Lady Yellow Jackets came out firing in the third quarter. They had one of their highest scoring quarters of the season and left Andrews behind in the scoring column. They finished the quarter leading Andrews 50-19 and were able to get their reserves into the game.

The fourth quarter was fairly quick with the lead being so great the game was all but decided. Hayesville still outscored Andrews in the quarter and ran away with the game 58-23.

Hayesville Leading scorers:

Brianna Foster: 12 points

Lila Payne: 11 points
