Tropical Storm Zeta related power outages cause CCS to close

HAYESVILLE, NC – Due to the widespread power outages from tropical storm Zeta, Clay County Schools are now closed for the day.
Originally, the school system was operating on a two-hour delay for students and 10-month staff.
In a statement from the school, Superintendent Dale Cole said:
“Clay currently has 1570 people without power, and that number is climbing. We have several trees down across roads across the area, and it is likely that we still have some strong winds on the way. For those reasons, CCS will be closed for students today. They will resume their normal schedule tomorrow. This will be an optional workday for all staff. Please be safe, everyone. Go Yellow Jackets.”
At 8 a.m., the Blue Ridge Mountain EMC (BRMEMC) “has recorded over 150 outages affecting over 15,000 members across most of our system.” More power outages are expected as tropical storm Zeta continues to pass through.
BRMEMC crews are out and working to quickly restore power. However, they do ask for patience.
