Lady Yellow Jackets battle back but fall short

On Monday night January 27th, the Hayesville Lady Yellow Jackets hosted the Franklin Lady Panthers. The Lady Yellow Jackets got off to a slow start, something that has plagued them at times this year. The Yellow Jackets fought back and made a game of it, even tying it up at one point. In the end the Lady Yellow Jackets fell to a very good Franklin Lady Panther team 46-38.

In the first quarter the Lady Panthers blitzed Hayesville storming out a 9-0 lead. Head coach Chad McClure called a timeout and settled his team, who then actually outscored the panthers in the game after the initial early run by Franklin. The first quarter ended with the Lady Yellow Jackets trailing 15-12.

In the second quarter the Lady Yellow Jackets had some good offensive opportunities but just couldn’t get much to fall. The Lady Yellow Jackets only managed 7 points in the quarter while the Lady Panthers had 15. It appeared that Franklin may run away with this one as they did when they hosted the Lady Yellow Jackets earlier in the year.

Hayesville entered the third quarter trailing 30-19 knowing they had to do something to fight back. They tightened the defensive screws and put the clamps on Franklin in the second half. They held the Lady Panthers to only 16 second half points and outscored them in both quarters. Yet the deficit from the first half was just too much to overcome.

Hayesville fell to Franklin 46-38, while holding the Panthers to well under their season scoring average. The Lady Jackets offense has been inconsistent at times this year, but the execution has been solid. Good looks are just not falling as much as one would hope for. If the shots start falling this Hayesville team could be very dangerous come playoff time. Only time will tell if that will happen though.

Hayesville leaders for the night:

Jade Patterson 10 points

Breanna Foster 10 points

Lila Payne 8 points

Hayesville will next play on the road, at Rosman on Tuesday night January the 28th. The first time these two teams met Hayesville cruised to an easy 55-32 victory. Yet with the long ride to Rosman and playing on back to back nights we could be in for a good game.
