Clay County female charged with homicide

HAYESVILLE, NC – A Clay County female has been charged with homicide. On Wednesday, Sept. 4, Gregory George Garcia, 43, of Murphy, was shot and killed at a residence in the Tusquittee Community of Clay County, according to a press release from Clay County Sheriff Bobby Deese.

Garcia was allegedly in a relationship with the suspect, Julie Marie Morrison, 53, at the time of the incident. Garcia was staying at Morrison’s residence in Tusquittee, according to information received by law enforcement.

Garcia was discovered with a single gunshot wound to the chest from a .32 caliber semi-automatic handgun which was recovered at the scene. Morrison was charged with homicide and is being held without bond in the Clay County Detention Center. A Sept. 11 court date is scheduled. An autopsy was conducted Thursday and the results are pending, Deese said in the news release.
