George Thomas Chambers: Obituary

George Thomas Chambers, age 87, formerly of Bristol, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Hayesville, North Carolina, from natural causes, on Friday, November 2, 2018.  He was born April 12, 1931, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.  George attended Tennessee High School, and left to join the Air Force, were he completed his education.  He served during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany.  He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University in 1958.   George was the owner of The Mini Market, and George’s Package Store, both in Bristol, Tennessee.

George was preceded in death by his parents, James Corbett and Mary Virginia Crothers Chambers; his sister, Rosemary Reynolds; his brother, Jim Chambers; and his grandson, Seth Guyer.

He is survived by his son, Tom Chambers (Janet);  daughters, Leigh (Kevin) Frederick, and Lynne (Vaughn) Guyer; his grandchildren, Dylan Chambers, Katie Keesee, Luke Keesee, Matt Arnold, Rachel Rourk, Savannah Fair, Lee Frederick, Chris Frederick, Andrew Guyer, and Jennifer Richardson; his brother, Rear Admiral Richard Chambers, USN (Mary Ann); his sister, Charlotte Kludzweit; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

George had many special friends, and Air Force buddies.  He was kind to everyone he met and was a beloved friend.

His graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, Tennessee.

George was an avid backpacker and hiker of the Appalachian Trail; in lieu of flowers, when you are in the woods please have a thought of George and pass on stories you may have to others who are enjoying his favorite hobby.
